![]() Recently, on Inauguration Day, Emily organized a reading of Lauren Gunderson's The Taming. As part of an agreement with the publisher, Gunderson announced in November that anyone who wanted to would be allowed to perform a reading of the play for free. The Taming is about three very different women - a liberal blogger, a conservative senator's aide, and a Miss America contestant - attempting to work together to rewrite the Constitution. The political nature of the play, as well as it's emphasis on women's voices, make it a perfect artistic protest to the incoming administration. Emily directed and produced the play, in addition to performing as Patricia. The one-night engagement, featuring three other women theatre artists in the Bay Area, was held on January 20 at the Exit Theatre in San Francisco. The cast and audience raised funds and were able to make a sizable donation to the ACLU! Pictured above is Emily (center) with Kelli McCrann as Katherine (left) and Toni Maddocks as Bianca (right), in the middle of a "dance break for America." Emily is very thankful to have had the opportunity to respond artistically to the recent election.
