Casting news | Dramatis Personae

Hi, y'all!  Emily here!

My first announcement here is a change in the voice of my news post! When I started this website, I though that writing in the third person made me sound more professional. But now I've decided that I want another way for you to get to know me as a person - through my writing voice! So, from now on, this will be a first-person account of my professional wins. Mainly in service of being able to be true to how THOROUGHLY excited I am about my life, always.

My second piece of news here is that I have booked my first acting job after moving to LA two weeks ago! I am working with artist Sophie Jung and an amazing group of other marginalized actors and artists on a devised theatre/performance art piece titled Dramatis Personae. The piece is "​an open-ended collaborative performance installation in which a group of professional actors respond to their experience of typecasting within the film industry. Jung’s performances weave together fragmented narratives around found objects, using these objects and their attributes as a trigger to produce a text that undoes their single story and derails categorical structure."

Of course, it's only natural that my first gig in LA is creating a weird and wonderful piece that calls out and takes down the white hetero-patriarchal establishment *shrug emoji*. I'm so thrilled to be working with such awe-inspiring artists, and I still can't wrap my brain around the fact that I'm being paid to do this. What more could a girl want?
